Out For Food
After a while trying to fine tune my riding habits, it was time for going on longer trips. Out of the Denver metro area and off the beaten track. I fell in love with riding and decided any excuse was a good excuse to fill the tank and go. Work gives our birthdays as a paid day off so this was going to work great for me.
A very simple plan was to go south east to a small town called Elbert, this was a quiet little town almost in the middle of nowhere. All I did was get the map’ pick an area and find a place for food. This town has an old west style bar and restaurant call The South Forty Saloon. This was the first long trip.
South on Parker road till Franktown then east to Elizebeth, thanks to gps it’s easy. Then out to the countryside, around farms and estates that make me jealous. There is even a private air strip next to someone's house. This sort of riding soothes me and dissolves most of my stress. The roads are reasonably well taken care of since the traffic load is so light.
As a new rider when I turned onto the road that the bar is on scared me since it was just a dirt road. Having no experience of loose surfaces it really raised my blood pressure. Now to look at the bar felt like a step back in time, you could imagine the rails in front were where the tied their horses.
The food was quite good, a double cheeseburger, jalapeno poppers and a very cold coors light. The people were very friendly, this was just an excellent example of the country hospitality that I have seen since I moved here. The atmosphere was very small town feel. The food was great and the beer was cold. Then it was a simple return trip the same route back.
